Finalists Selected for The Pasadena Tournament of Roses 2025 Rose Court

Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses has announced the finalists for the 2025 Rose Court, and the excitement is in full bloom! Twenty-eight young women, selected from 49 Pasadena area schools, have been selected for their leadership, academic achievements, and community involvement—and they’re just one step away from being named to the 2025 Rose Court.

As part of the tradition, Rose Court members receive a $7,500 academic scholarship and engage in personal development programs that boost public speaking, leadership, and confidence.

Of the finalists, seven will be chosen to the Rose Court and will ride in the 136th Rose Parade as well as attend the 111th Rose Bowl Game on January 1, 2025! The seven finalists will be named to the 2025 Rose Court on Monday, September 30, 2024.

Celebrating Latino Heritage Month

September 15 to October 15 is Latino Heritage Month, a time to honor the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of the Latino community. Pasadena is packed with exciting events, from cultural festivals and arts and craft, to live performances and food tastings! Join in the celebrations and explore the vibrant heritage through music, dance, food, and community activities happening all month long.

Wednesday (Today)

🪘INCA, the Peruvian Ensemble: Catch INCA, the Peruvian Ensemble, at La Pintoresca Branch Library on Sept. 25th at 4 PM Experience a captivating blend of Andean, Criollo, and Afro-Peruvian music, showcasing Peru’s rich cultural heritage through unique instruments and rhythms.

Thursday

🕺🏽Lindy Groove Dance Lessons: Learn to swing dance! Whether you’re a pro or a newbie, solo, or with a partner. Lindy Groove offers dance lessons every Thursday. Lessons held at Grand Ballroom of the Pasadena Masonic Hall. Doors open at 6:45 PM.

🎞️ Movie Night: A Million Miles Away: Enjoy a special outdoor screening of A Million Miles Away, the inspiring true story of José Hernandez, a Mexican immigrant farm worker who became an astronaut. It’s a tale of determination and reaching for the stars. Bring blankets and snacks for an uplifting evening under the night sky! Sept. 27th, 7 PM at Madison Elementary School.

🔭 Explore Caltech: Explore Caltech on Sept. 28th, from 10 AM to 2 PM, featuring booths from each division, JPL, and local organizations. Enjoy fun STEM activities, guest lectures, food trucks, games, and more—perfect for a day of science and discovery for all ages!

  • 🪅Latino Heritage Parade and Festival: Celebrate at the 26th Annual Latino Heritage Parade and Festival - Oct. 5th! Join local schools, community groups, and neighbors as the parade kicks off at Los Robles Ave and ends at Pasadena City Hall. Enjoy the festival from 10 AM to 4 PM with food, music, and fun. With special guests and parade Grand Marshals NASA astronaut José M. Hernández and school teacher Martín Dorado!

  • 🧮 PCC Flea Market: The Pasadena City College Flea Market features over 400 vendors offering a range of antiques and collectibles, from high-end finds to rummage sale treasures. Located in the campus parking lots on the West side of PCC. Oct. 6th, 8 AM-3 PM.

  • 🌹 Rose Bowl Flea Market: Known worldwide for its unique finds and quality vendors, this outdoor mega event takes place on the second Sunday of each month at the Rose Bowl Stadium—rain or shine! Next one is on Oct. 13th, 5 AM - 4:30 PM.

Pasadena’s Rental Registry Now Open 🏠

The City of Pasadena Rent Stabilization Department (RSD) launched its Rental Registry on September 23, 2024. All residential rental properties subject to the Pasadena Fair & Equitable Housing Charter Amendment must register this year. The RSD is offering workshops and a webinar to assist housing providers with the registration process.

Pasadena City Council Approves Conversion of Homeless Housing to Senior Units

The Pasadena City Council has approved a $26 million plan to convert Centennial Place (the former YMCA building) from homeless housing to affordable senior units. The historic 142-unit building will undergo major renovations, including plumbing and electrical upgrades, kitchenettes, and additional restrooms. Critics voiced concerns over the loss of permanent supportive housing, but city officials emphasized the urgent need for affordable senior housing. The transition will be phased, allowing some current residents to remain with ongoing support.

City Council Public Meeting

The next Pasadena City Council public meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 30th at Pasadena City Hall, Room S249.
