THE DIGEST

Pasadena Honors R&B Group Troop with Plaques

The Pasadena City Council has unanimously voted to honor local R&B group Troop with plaques at the Civic Auditorium and Central Park. Formed by Pasadena High School students, Troop gained fame with three number-one singles and several top-ten hits on the Billboard R&B chart. While the plaques were met with widespread support, a controversial proposal to rename Dayton Street in their honor was rejected after significant opposition from local residents and preservationists. The plaques will celebrate Troop’s musical legacy, with the Civic Auditorium plaque recognizing their achievements and the Central Park plaque offering a deeper historical tribute.

Pasadena Council Honors City Attorney and Highlights Community Initiatives

On Monday’s City Council meeting, the Pasadena City Council celebrated several notable achievements, including honoring City Attorney Michele Beal Bagneris for 27 years of service. Bagneris, Pasadena's longest-serving City Attorney, was recognized for her leadership in civil matters, diversity initiatives, and domestic violence prevention programs. The Council also marked National Friends of Libraries Week, Bullying Prevention Awareness Month, and Red Ribbon Week, highlighting the community’s dedication to literacy, anti-bullying efforts, and drug prevention. The meeting concluded with tributes to two late community leaders, Maddalena Riboli and Alice Coulombe.

The Cruel World Festival is coming to Pasadena in May 17, 2025, bringing together legendary post-punk, new wave, and gothic rock acts at Brookside at the Rose Bowl. Featuring iconic artists like New Order, Midge Ure, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and many more. Fans can look forward to a full day of live performances and an unforgettable experience. Tickets go on sale this Friday, October 25th.

Lights, Camera, Action: this Friday, the highly anticipated LightBox Expo returns to Pasadena, bringing together the world’s top artists, illustrators, and animators. Held at the Pasadena Convention Center, the three-day event will feature workshops, panels, and exhibitions, offering fans and professionals alike the chance to connect with creative talents from the entertainment industry. Attendees can expect an inspiring weekend filled with live art demonstrations, portfolio reviews, and opportunities to network with industry leaders. The expo runs from October 25-27, with tickets available for purchase online.
