THE DIGEST
Temperature Increase Next Week
A sneak-peak of Spring-time weather is set for next week! An unseasonal warming trend is set to bring near-record temperatures to Pasadena next week, with forecasts predicting highs reaching 88°F by mid-week. This heat wave, driven by high pressure and offshore wind patterns, is expected to peak on Tuesday and Wednesday. While recent rains have reduced fire risks, officials note that humidity levels will remain low during this period. Residents are advised to prepare for mild temperatures even during early mornings, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities.
Unity In The Community Event
In response to the tragic events of January 7, Pasadena's Memorial Park will host "UNITY in the Community: A Day of Music, Healing & Hope" on Saturday, February 22, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Organized by City Councilmembers Tyron Hampton and Justin Jones, in collaboration with the Armory Center for the Arts, the event aims to foster healing and unity among residents. Attendees can look forward to musical entertainment by Utopia Tribe DJs, art spaces managed by Armory teaching staff, resource tables for those affected by the recent fires, and a variety of food trucks. The celebration will also honor local heroes and organizations who provided support during and after the January tragedy. Coinciding with the conclusion of Black History Month, this gathering seeks to unite Pasadena and Altadena communities through music, art, and shared experiences. For more information, contact the Armory Center for the Arts.
State of the City Address—Housing Assistance
In his recent State of the City address, Mayor Victor Gordo announced that 10% of Pasadena households now benefit from affordable housing or rental assistance programs. Over the past four years, the city has constructed 375 affordable housing units—comprising 18% of all new housing—catering to low-income families, workforce housing, and permanent supportive housing. Additionally, 1,106 market-rate units have been converted to affordable housing. The recent Eaton Fire exacerbated the housing crisis by destroying thousands of homes in Altadena and Pasadena, displacing hundreds of residents. In response, the Regional Housing Trust, in partnership with Glendale and Burbank, has allocated $4.9 million to support affordable housing projects in Pasadena. The city's Housing Department is also collaborating with federal agencies to secure disaster relief funds to assist affected residents.
