THE DIGEST

Helicopter Rescue Saves Driver After 300-Foot Plunge in Angeles Crest

On Friday afternoon, a car went over the edge of Angeles Crest Highway and dropped about 300 feet into a canyon near Mile Marker 28. Luckily, an electrical crew happened to be working nearby, saw it happen, and rushed to help before calling 911.

That kicked off a huge rescue effort — 20 people from five different agencies including the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team, plus a helicopter. Power lines above the crash site made it extra tricky, so rescuers had to hoist the woman up in a basket. And because it wouldn’t be a true 2025 rescue story without some wild twist… one of the rescuers got stung by a bee, had an allergic reaction, and had to be airlifted out too.

The good news: both the driver and the rescuer went to the hospital and expected to be OK.

Lineage Dance Company Unveils Bold New Season

Pasadena’s own Lineage Dance Company is bringing “Lineage Magic” to the stage this year with seven productions that mix celebration, personal struggle, and community healing. The season kicks off this month with Music from the Movies alongside the Paul McDonald Big Band, followed by September’s Gala and an October run of RENT (first 25 tickets each night are half-price).

Other highlights include a site-specific Broadway Gamble Ramble at the historic Gamble House, the moving tribute Ceiling in the Floor about loss and suicide, the 20th anniversary of Healing Blue spotlighting women’s cancer journeys, and a spring finale: a dance twist on Little Shop of Horrors.

Lineage is also hosting a free community workshop on August 16 and is calling for donations to support its education and outreach programs. Full schedule and tickets at LineageDance.org.
