THE DIGEST

Pasadena Neighbors Rally To Save Tree

In Pasadena's Bungalow Heaven neighborhood, residents are uniting to preserve a cherished oak tree in McDonald Park. City officials have raised concerns about the tree's health, citing disease and significant root damage that pose safety risks to park visitors. Consequently, they recommended the tree's removal. The community, however, values the tree not only for its aesthetic contribution but also for its historical significance. Some residents believe the oak is between 150 and 200 years old, though city arborists estimate its age at approximately 60 years. In response to public concern, the city has commissioned a third-party arborist to conduct an additional inspection, scheduled for later this week. The outcome of the forthcoming arborist's assessment will determine the next steps in this community-driven endeavor to safeguard a piece of Pasadena's natural history.

Rose Bowl Stadium to Get Major Upgrades

The historic Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena is set to undergo an $80 million renovation aimed at modernizing the 102-year-old venue while preserving its iconic status. The "Lasting Legacy Campaign," announced by the Rose Bowl Operating Company and the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation, includes eight major upgrades: a new field-level club space, an advanced sound system, improved seating, and the installation of one of the nation's largest video boards. Additional enhancements involve refurbishing the stadium's marquee sign and updating essential infrastructure. The project will be executed in two phases, with the first concluding in 2026 and the second commencing after the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, during which the stadium will serve as a venue. Funding for the renovations is being secured through private contributions and partnerships, with six of the eight projects already fully financed.
