Quieter Fourth, Louder Community
Pasadena’s Fourth of July drone show sparked mixed reactions, but FoodieLand brought the fun. Meanwhile, the community rallied around a teen tamale vendor after an immigration incident—and yes, it’s officially rattlesnake season on local trails.
Good morning, Pasadena. This is News N’ Roses. The newsletter that runs smoother than a pit crew change at an F1 race. If you haven’t seen F1 yet, add it to your list—it’s a thrill. Catch it at the Paseo Regal, or treat yourself to dinner and a recliner at iPic (yes, they bring the food right to your seat).

THE DIGEST
Drones Over the Bowl: A Quiet Fourth Sparks Mixed Feels
Pasadena’s first-ever Fourth of July drone show at the Rose Bowl lit up the sky—but not everyone was dazzled. Some called it a high-tech marvel; others missed the classic boom. Personally, I liked it. I did miss the fireworks a bit—it was very quiet—but the drones were seriously impressive. Maybe next year they can add music or sound effects for more energy. That said, it was super fun to be at FoodieLand and just walk right over. The designs were amazing, the vibe was great, and the kids around me were totally into it. Looks like this quieter Fourth still had plenty of spark.
14‑Year‑Old Tamale Boss Inspires Pasadena Community
Pasadena rallied around 14-year-old Christopher Luna Garcia on Friday, who stepped up to run his family’s tamale cart after his mom was detained in an immigration encounter that sparked controversy across the city. With help from the community, Christopher sold out 500 tamales and raised over $1,500 to help with bills. It was a powerful reminder that in challenging moments, Pasadena knows how to show up with heart, hustle, and a whole lot of tamale love.
Rattlesnakes? Yep, It’s That Season.
Summer hikes mean stunning views, sore calves—and the occasional rattlesnake. Pasadena and Altadena’s trails are prime real estate for these sneaky sun-avoiders, especially after dark. So wear boots, stay on clear paths, and maybe don’t stick your hand in that mysterious hole. If you do meet a snake, don’t panic—back away slowly, and definitely don’t try to play Steve Irwin. If bitten, call 911 and chill (literally and figuratively). Stay safe out there, trailblazers!
