THE DIGEST
Maurine Kornfeld turns 103
Pasadena’s Rose Bowl Aquatic Center is making a splash this weekend, celebrating a truly extraordinary birthday! Maurine “Mo” Kornfeld, a legend in Masters swimming, is proof that age is just a number. Mo didn’t dive into competitive swimming until she was 60, but in the 40+ years since, she’s shattered world records and captured hearts. Her motto? “If you can outswim them, you can outlive them!” For Mo, swimming is pure joy—it’s what gets her out of bed every morning for her daily laps. At our last National Conference, she earned a standing ovation for her awe-inspiring 50-meter backstroke, her signature stroke. And in 2018, this Montana native was rightfully inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame. Watching Maurine dive into the pool or timing competitions reminds us all that it’s never too late to chase our passions. She’s not just a swimmer—she’s a role model for living life with strength, health, and boundless energy. Honestly, when I grow up, I want to be just like Mo!
Get ready, Pasadena—float fever is in full bloom! The Pasadena Tournament of Roses just gave us another tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come in the 2025 Rose Parade, and it’s nothing short of magical. Designers and builders are pulling out all the stops, crafting jaw-dropping floral masterpieces that promise to wow parade-goers on New Year’s Day. From towering creations dripping in color to intricate details that’ll have you leaning in for a closer look, the sneak peek unveiled the artistry and passion behind every petal. If this preview is any indication, the 2025 parade is gearing up to be a spectacle that redefines grandeur. Mark your calendars and get ready to witness Pasadena in full bloom!
