THE DIGEST

Get ready for an unforgettable night of art, music, and culture tonight in Pasadena! From 6-10 PM, experience Pasadena’s vibrant arts and culture scene with a free evening of art, music, and entertainment! Iconic institutions like the Gamble House, Mullin Gallery, the Alkebu-Ian Cultural Center, and many more will be open to the public, offering a night of creative exploration. Plus, free shuttles will be available to whisk you around town. Start your night at City Hall and dive into the cultural experience.

Only 75 days until the Rose Parade! Can you believe it? The 136th annual, 5½-mile parade is themed “Best Day Ever!”. You may have driven past the beautiful Tournament of Roses building and saw their banner—this means the float designs are on their way. Volunteers can help decorate the floats that are organized by the float builders. Learn more about volunteering and preview events here.

Did You See the Supermoon🌕?

You may have seen a bright light shining through your window, or a red globe in the night sky, or perhaps even the howls of werewolves🐺 in the distance. Or maybe, you unfortunately missed it. Well, there was a supermoon event that was observable early Wednesday morning to late Thursdays night in Pasadena.
A supermoon happens when the moon's orbit is closest to the Earth at the same time the moon is full. Supermoons only happen three to four times a year, and always appear consecutively. At its closest point, the full moon can appear up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than the faintest Moon of the year, which occurs when it’s farthest from Earth in its orbit.
Supermoons sometimes appear red due to Earth's atmosphere scattering shorter wavelengths of light, like blue, while allowing red and orange hues to pass through. This effect is especially noticeable when the moon is low on the horizon or during a lunar eclipse, creating the striking "blood moon" look. While I didn’t capture the red supermoon, I did get a good photo of the supermoon with my camera. Take a look:
